The Katsina State Police Command has advised officers of the newly created Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to carry out their duties professionally and strictly follow the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, gave the warning while speaking to members of the unit after they completed a three-day intensive training programme in Katsina.
He explained that the training was organised based on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan-Disu, to improve the unit’s ability to respond effectively to violent crimes across the state.
Umar-Fage urged the operatives to apply the skills and knowledge gained during the training in their daily operations, while also maintaining discipline, honesty, and professionalism.
He strongly warned against any form of human rights abuse, extortion, or misconduct, stressing that the unit must operate within the limits of the law at all times.
The police commissioner also called for intelligence-based policing and better cooperation with local communities to help prevent crime and respond quickly when incidents occur.
He further encouraged residents to support security efforts by providing useful and timely information that can help in the fight against criminal activities.
Umar-Fage reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Katsina State through proper, accountable, and professional policing.
