Former presidential spokesman Laolu Akande has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership circle, arguing that the President is not receiving the quality advice needed to effectively address the country’s challenges.
Akande, who previously served as spokesperson to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
According to him, one of the major setbacks facing the current administration is the quality of individuals surrounding the President, insisting that many of those closest to him are not providing the level of guidance expected in government.
He argued that when leaders rely on weak advice, it becomes difficult for them to make the right decisions on critical national issues.
Akande maintained that political arguments and personal attacks against opponents should not distract the government from its primary responsibility of ensuring security and enforcing the law.
He stressed that anyone found committing criminal acts should be investigated and prosecuted regardless of political affiliation or status.
“The real issue is not who is making controversial statements or attacking political rivals. The focus should be on dealing with crime and ensuring justice is served,” he said.
The former presidential aide also urged President Tinubu to take stronger control of the nation’s security situation, reminding him of the responsibilities attached to his office as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
According to Akande, the President has both the authority and constitutional responsibility to confront threats to national security without hesitation.
He noted that no individual or group should be allowed to operate above the law if the country is to overcome its security challenges.
Akande further called on the President to take decisive action and provide the leadership needed to restore public confidence in governance and security.
He added that given Tinubu’s long political and administrative experience, Nigerians expect more direct and effective leadership in tackling the country’s pressing issues.
