The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, has issued a stern warning to officers and personnel of the command, declaring that acts of misconduct, abuse of power and unprofessional behaviour will no longer be tolerated.
The police chief made the remarks on Tuesday during a high-level meeting with senior officers, including Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), tactical unit heads and other top-ranking personnel.
Adekimi emphasized the need for strict discipline within the command and directed officers to fully comply with the professional standards and operational guidelines introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to him, every officer must conduct themselves in a way that reflects the values of integrity, accountability and professionalism expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.
He warned that the command would no longer overlook misconduct, stressing that any officer found engaging in extortion, harassment, abuse of authority, incivility or any action capable of damaging the image of the police would face disciplinary measures.
The commissioner also reminded officers that modern technology and social media have increased public scrutiny, making it easier for members of the public to record and expose unethical conduct.
He noted that officers must be careful about their actions, public behaviour and interactions while carrying out official duties.
As part of the briefing, Adekimi educated officers on the Nigeria Police Force’s social media policy, cautioning them against the careless use of online platforms, leaking official information or engaging in activities that could compromise security operations or tarnish the reputation of the Force.
Beyond internal discipline, the police commissioner called for stronger collaboration between police formations and local communities across the state.
He directed all Divisional Police Officers to deepen engagement with religious leaders, school owners, principals and other community stakeholders to improve security and strengthen intelligence gathering.
The CP stressed the importance of protecting schools, worship centres and other public places that could become targets of criminal activities.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to effective policing, Adekimi assured residents that the Kwara State Police Command remains focused on safeguarding lives and property, promoting community partnerships and maintaining discipline among its officers.
