Former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has picked France as the leading favourites to win the World Cup this year.

According to him, Didier Deschamps’ team is stronger than every other side in the tournament, thanks to their depth of talent and big-game experience.

Speaking to Le Figaro, Wenger said France stand out clearly when compared to other nations competing for the trophy.

“I put them above the others. France have so much talent, and Deschamps has experience,” he said.

Wenger noted that while France are very strong in attack, they must be careful not to become too unbalanced going forward.

He added that modern football has changed, as even attacking players now contribute more to defensive duties.

“Today’s modern players, even attackers, know how to help defensively,” he explained.

He also pointed out France’s physical strength and ability to decide tight matches late on.

“When it’s 0–0 against France with 20 minutes left, you can still lose the game. Their power makes the difference,” Wenger said.

France are former world champions, having won the 2018 World Cup, but they fell short in 2022 after losing the final to Argentina.
