Aliyu Misau, the lawmaker representing Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
His defection was announced on Wednesday during plenary by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
In his resignation letter, Misau explained that his decision to quit the PDP was driven by ongoing internal disagreements and long-standing factional divisions within the party.
He said the crisis within the PDP made it difficult for him to continue working under its platform.
This latest move adds to a growing wave of defections from the PDP in Bauchi State.
It comes just weeks after another federal lawmaker from the state also left the PDP for the APM, making Misau the second Bauchi representative to switch parties in June alone.
Earlier on June 4, four members of the House from Bauchi had also defected from the PDP to the APM, further deepening concerns over cracks within the opposition party.
Political observers say the repeated defections highlight rising tensions and instability within the PDP in the state, especially ahead of future elections.
