Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has encouraged young graduates posted to the state for their National Youth Service to learn useful skills and consider starting small businesses during their service year.
He gave this advice at the swearing-in event for the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Gusau.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura, the governor told the corps members to make good use of their time by learning trades and joining entrepreneurship programmes that can help them succeed after service.
According to him, gaining practical skills can reduce unemployment and help young people become independent instead of relying on limited job opportunities.
Lawal also assured the corps members that their safety remains a top priority, adding that his government is working closely with security agencies to protect them throughout their stay in the state.
“We have taken proper steps with security agencies to make sure you are safe during your service year in Zamfara,” he said.
The governor further highlighted the importance of the NYSC programme in bringing Nigerians together and promoting national growth. He advised the corps members to take part in all camp activities, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which is designed to teach practical and income-generating skills.
He also reminded them to follow camp rules, remain disciplined, and show good leadership, teamwork, and love for the country.

In his own remarks, the Zamfara State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, praised the governor for supporting the scheme and improving the welfare of corps members in the state.
He pointed out that better allowances and improved camp facilities are clear signs that the government is committed to making life easier for corps members.
