Former Chelsea star Ruud Gullit has left Arsenal out of his list of favourites to win this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal are set to face Atletico Madrid away in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, with hopes of reaching the final still alive.
Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed an unbeaten run in the Champions League so far this season, including a dominant 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid and a 3-1 victory against Bayern Munich during the group stage.
However, despite their strong European form, Gullit believes other teams are ahead of them in the race for the trophy.
The Dutch football legend said he is more impressed with Bayern Munich and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), naming both sides as the strongest contenders.
He praised Bayern for their style of play and described PSG as a team that controls matches well, especially in midfield, which he believes gives them an advantage.
Gullit also noted that Bayern and PSG will meet in the semi-finals, meaning only one of them can reach the final. He said it is unfortunate that both strong teams have to face each other at this stage.
Speaking to Diario AS, he said he likes Bayern’s football and believes they have a real chance, while also expressing admiration for PSG’s quality and control of games.
He added that, in his opinion, the winner of the competition will likely come from either Bayern Munich or PSG.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have faced criticism in recent weeks due to inconsistent form, despite progressing to the semi-finals after a narrow aggregate win over Sporting in the quarter-finals.
