Former James Rodríguez has tipped his Colombian teammate Luis Díaz as a strong contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
The former Real Madrid midfielder believes Díaz has what it takes to claim football’s most prestigious individual honour, especially if Colombia enjoys a successful run and reaches the final of the 2026 World Cup.
Rodríguez praised the winger’s recent performances and described him as one of the best players in world football at the moment.
Speaking in comments shared by Fabrizio Romano, Rodríguez said he sees no reason why Díaz cannot win the Ballon d’Or, insisting the Bayern Munich star is already among the top five players in the game today.
According to him, a strong World Cup campaign with Colombia could significantly boost Díaz’s chances of lifting the coveted award.
Díaz has continued to impress since completing his move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich. The winger played a key role in helping the German giants secure the Bundesliga title last season and remains one of the club’s standout performers.
