Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will return to camp on Sunday as preparations begin for their decisive qualification battle against Benin Republic in the race for a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The players had been given a short break after their impressive performance in the previous qualifying round, where they comfortably eliminated Guinea.
Coach Akeem Busari and his squad are expected to regroup at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, where they will begin intensive training ahead of the crucial two-legged encounter.
The Flamingos were dominant against Guinea, recording an overwhelming 11-0 aggregate victory. They secured a 5-0 win in the first leg before completing the job with a convincing 6-0 triumph in the return fixture.
Benin Republic earned their place in the final qualifying round after defeating Sierra Leone 5-1 on aggregate in another all-West African showdown.
The first leg between Nigeria and Benin Republic is scheduled for Saturday, July 5, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The return leg will take place a week later at the Stade de Kegue in Lomé.
The winner over the two matches will secure one of Africa’s tickets to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco from October 17 to November 7, 2026.
With a World Cup spot at stake, the Flamingos will be hoping to continue their impressive form and complete the final step on the road to Morocco.
