
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has openly backed the Lagos State governorship ambition of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
Gbajabiamila, who is also a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, made his position known when Hamzat visited him as part of his political consultations ahead of the 2027 election. He praised the deputy governor’s leadership qualities and said he believes Hamzat has what it takes to lead Lagos successfully.
According to him, Hamzat has shown seriousness and respect by reaching out for consultations, describing the move as a sign of humility and good leadership. He added that he has strong trust in Hamzat’s ability to govern the state effectively.
Gbajabiamila stated clearly that he is fully behind Hamzat’s ambition and assured him of strong support from his Surulere base, noting that both his constituency and Lagos residents would stand with him.
During the meeting, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Musiliu Obanikoro, also spoke about the growing support for Hamzat. He said the deputy governor has been consulting widely and has already received massive backing from key stakeholders across the state.
Obanikoro added that the level of endorsement so far shows that many political leaders and groups believe in Hamzat’s candidacy.
Several notable figures attended the meeting alongside Hamzat, including the Secretary of the GAC, Alhaji Muti Are, former senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Bode Oyedele, Engineer Adekunle Olayinka, and Dr Hakeem Shittu.
Others present were Saheed Kekereekun, Dr Jebe, and Rasaq Ajala, among other supporters, showing strong political backing for Hamzat’s governorship ambition.
