A group of supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan, operating under the name Coalition for Jonathan, has said that he will take part in the 2027 presidential election.
The convener of the group, Dr. Tom Ohikere, made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Friday.
His comment comes a day after Jonathan stated that he would begin consultations before deciding whether to join the 2027 race.
Ohikere explained that Jonathan’s earlier remark about politics not being a “computer game” was meant to show that running for president involves serious planning and a complex process, not a quick decision.
He said, “Goodluck Jonathan should not be misunderstood. When he said it is not a computer game, he meant that becoming president is not something you just wake up and decide. It involves many steps and serious preparation.”
According to him, Jonathan is expected to be on the ballot for the 2027 election, although he has not yet formally accepted the group’s request for him to return.
He added that the former president is likely to make his final decision public in the coming days.
Ohikere also revealed that he is a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and strongly supports Jonathan’s possible return to contest the presidency.
