Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged the Federal Government to suspend ongoing political campaigns and first concentrate on addressing the growing security problems in the country.
Amaechi made the appeal while speaking on national issues, saying the worsening insecurity situation should be treated as a serious national emergency rather than focusing on political activities.
He explained that credible elections cannot take place in an environment where citizens do not feel safe in their homes and communities.
According to him, “There can be no meaningful elections if people are not secure in their own communities.”
The former minister called on government authorities to prioritize the protection of lives and property, warning that continuing election campaigns while cases of killings, kidnappings, and unrest are rising will only increase public anger and reduce trust in leadership.
He added that restoring peace and security should come first before any serious political campaign activities ahead of elections.
