Borno Police Commissioner warns officers against torture and human rights violations
The Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has cautioned police officers in the state against the use of torture, excessive force, and any form of human rights abuse while carrying out their duties.
According to a statement released on Monday by the state police command and signed by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the warning was issued during a meeting held at the command headquarters in Maiduguri.
The lecture had in attendance senior officers, including tactical commanders, heads of departments, and divisional police officers.
CP Abdulmajid stressed that all police operations must be carried out professionally and in line with respect for human rights.
He made it clear that acts such as torture and abuse of suspects are illegal, unprofessional, and will not be accepted under any circumstance.
He also explained that such behaviour goes against the Police Act, internal regulations, and the rule of law, adding that it damages public trust in the police.
The commissioner instructed officers to strictly follow existing operational guidelines, especially Force Order 237, which governs the use of force. He urged personnel to always exercise caution, restraint, and respect for human dignity during operations.
