Dapo Abiodun has announced plans by the Ogun State Government to introduce a new financial support programme aimed at improving the welfare of thousands of residents across the state.
The initiative, known as the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), is expected to provide monthly cash assistance to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents within the next one year.
Governor Abiodun disclosed this on Friday during the opening ceremony of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church.
Speaking at the event themed “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” the governor said the programme is part of ongoing efforts to support vulnerable residents and improve living conditions across Ogun State.
Abiodun also revealed that his administration would give priority attention to the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road to improve transportation and economic activities in the area.
The governor praised the Church for its role in promoting moral values, peace, community development, and national unity, describing religious institutions as important partners in nation-building.
According to him, the Church has continued to make meaningful contributions in areas such as education, healthcare, youth empowerment, family values, and social welfare.
He stressed that strong collaboration between government and faith-based organisations remains necessary for building a peaceful and progressive society.
Governor Abiodun further called on religious leaders to continue encouraging citizens to participate actively in the democratic process, especially as the country approaches another election season.
He urged eligible Nigerians to register and vote peacefully while promoting truth, unity, and responsible citizenship.
The governor also stated that political activities in Ogun State have become more peaceful compared to previous years, noting that the ongoing All Progressives Congress primaries have so far remained calm and orderly.
Reflecting on his own political experience seven years ago, Abiodun said the atmosphere at the time was filled with tension, violence, and fear, unlike the peaceful situation currently being witnessed across the state.
In his sermon, Olusina Fape commended the governor for implementing projects across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State.
The cleric particularly praised the newly inaugurated Gateway International Airport, describing it as a major development capable of boosting trade, business activities, and transportation within the state.
He also applauded the government’s Light Up Ogun Project, noting that stable electricity remains important for attracting investors and supporting economic growth.
