A middle-aged woman is in critical condition after she was attacked by suspected phone snatchers in Gadau, the host community of Sa’adu Zungur University in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident happened on Thursday close to the university’s main campus and has caused fear among residents of the student community.

According to eyewitnesses, about four attackers confronted the woman and attempted to take her mobile phone. The situation reportedly turned violent when she resisted their attempt.

During the struggle, one of the suspects was said to have used a sharp object to injure her seriously before taking the phone by force. The attackers also allegedly inflicted multiple cuts on her face and other parts of her body before escaping from the scene.

The injured woman was quickly taken to a nearby medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment. Medical officials are considering referring her to another hospital depending on her condition.

Residents of the area have reacted with anger, saying incidents of phone snatching and similar attacks have become too common. They are calling on security agencies to increase patrols and bring the suspects to justice.

They also stressed that Gadau, as a university town, needs stronger security measures to protect students, staff, and other residents.

As of the time of this report, the Bauchi State Police Command had not issued an official statement. Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, were unsuccessful as messages sent to him were not responded to.
