A top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, has described how he narrowly avoided being harmed after a violent attack by suspected thugs in Kano on Monday.
]Zaura, who recently announced plans to run for the Kano Central senatorial seat in the 2027 elections under the APC, said several of his vehicles were damaged during the incident, while some of his supporters sustained injuries.
The attack happened as the businessman and his supporters were heading to Meena Event Centre for the official declaration of his political ambition.
In a statement released by his media aide, Dahiru Maiwuddadu, Zaura said the group was suddenly ambushed by hoodlums who attacked his convoy and destroyed multiple vehicles.
Although he was not injured, the incident caused serious damage and created fear among residents and traders in the area.
He added that the attackers later moved toward the busy GSM market around Farm Centre, causing panic and forcing many people to flee.
Zaura expressed sympathy for those affected by the incident and praised security operatives for stepping in quickly to restore order.
He also raised concerns about increasing violence involving young people, calling for urgent steps to tackle the root causes and protect lives and property.
The APC chieftain urged security agencies to investigate the attack thoroughly and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. He warned that continued violence could disrupt peace and hurt business activities in the state.
He further appealed to young people to avoid violence and instead embrace peace, dialogue, and lawful ways of resolving conflicts.
The incident has renewed concerns about safety in major commercial areas of Kano, especially as political activities begin to build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
