Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly killed several suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters after successfully repelling an attack on a military base in Borno State.
The incident was revealed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X.
According to security sources, the terrorists attempted to attack a Forward Operating Base located in Tungushe during the early hours of May 22.
However, soldiers stationed at the base reportedly resisted the assault after an intense gun battle with the insurgents.
Following the failed attack, troops launched a follow-up clearance operation around the area at about 6:00 a.m. to track down fleeing terrorists and recover abandoned items.
During the operation, security forces reportedly recovered several combat materials left behind by the attackers, including AK-47 magazines, hand grenades, ammunition belts, fuel supplies, clothing items, slippers, and a mobile phone.
Military sources disclosed that at least 15 terrorists were believed to have been killed during the confrontation, based on intelligence findings, blood stains seen along escape routes, and the scale of the gunfight.
The sources also stated that troops involved in the operation remained highly motivated and prepared to continue ongoing counterterrorism operations across the North-East region.
