The Enugu State Ministry of Health has shut down three health facilities operating illegally in Enugu South Local Government Area for failing to obtain the required operational licences.
The affected facilities were sealed on Friday by the ministry’s Monitoring and Supervision Team led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu.
According to Ezeudu, the action is part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare services and ensure that medical facilities in the state meet approved standards.
She explained that the inspection exercise was designed to assess the quality of healthcare delivery, staff performance, hospital infrastructure, patient care, and compliance with government health regulations.
Ezeudu stated that the state government remains committed to building a healthcare system that is efficient, responsive, and focused on the wellbeing of residents.
She also encouraged healthcare workers to remain professional in carrying out their duties and maintain high standards while attending to patients.
The director praised hospitals and clinics that were performing well and providing quality services, while also giving recommendations to facilities that need improvement.
According to her, the monitoring exercise is not intended to punish health workers or target medical facilities, but to support better healthcare delivery across the state.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, said regular inspections and supervision are important in identifying problems in the health sector and improving accountability.
He added that the exercise reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to ongoing reforms in the state’s healthcare system.
Ugwu noted that the government’s goal is to ensure that people in every community have access to safe, affordable, and quality healthcare services.
During the exercise, the ministry’s team visited several health centres in the area, interacted with workers and patients, and examined how the facilities were operating.
Residents of the area also commended the ministry for the direct monitoring, saying it would help strengthen confidence in public and private healthcare services across the state.
