Armed men suspected to be gunmen attacked Rogo Local Government Area in Kano State on Thursday night, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The incident has led to increased security presence in the area.

The attack happened in Barbaji village, Jajaye Ward, around 9:00 p.m. According to reports, about four armed men arrived on motorcycles, dressed in khaki clothing, and went straight after a local vigilante member known as Alasan Yellow.

Eyewitness accounts said the victim was shot at close range outside his shop, causing panic in the community. During the confusion, another person who tried to help was also hit by gunfire.

The attackers then moved to a nearby vigilante office and fired shots randomly, forcing residents to run for safety.

The commander of the Rogo vigilante group, Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, confirmed the attack while speaking to local authorities. He said one person died on the spot, while several others were injured to different degrees.

He also explained that four of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment, while security operatives helped evacuate them to nearby hospitals. One of the injured persons, said to be in serious condition, was later transferred to Gwarzo for more advanced medical care.

Following the incident, security has been tightened in the area. Joint patrol teams from neighbouring Kiru Local Government Area and parts of Kaduna State have been deployed to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

Authorities have urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue to track down those responsible for the assault.
