Former Arsenal star Thierry Henry has tipped France as the team most likely to lift the World Cup trophy this year.

The French football icon believes his country has all the qualities needed to go all the way, pointing to their impressive record of reaching the finals of the last two World Cups.

Speaking in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Henry said France remain one of the strongest teams in international football and deserve to be considered the leading favourites for the tournament.

However, he also highlighted several other nations that could challenge for the title. According to him, Spain, Argentina, Portugal and England all have the quality and depth to mount serious title bids.

Henry added that surprise packages could also emerge during the competition, mentioning Norway and Senegal as teams capable of exceeding expectations.

On Germany, the former striker said he is still waiting to see the four-time world champions return to their best form before considering them among the leading contenders.
