Dutch football giants Feyenoord have confirmed the departure of Robin van Persie as head coach, meaning the club will head into the 2026/27 season under new leadership.
The announcement was made on Sunday through an official club statement, where Feyenoord thanked the former Netherlands international for his efforts during his time in charge.
Van Persie returned to the club where he began his playing career in February 2025 and was handed the responsibility of leading the team from the dugout.
Despite guiding Feyenoord to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie and securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, the club decided a managerial change was necessary.
Explaining the decision, newly appointed technical director Devy Rigaux said the club carried out a detailed review of the team’s overall progress and future direction.
According to him, the assessment looked at several factors, including the team’s style of play, consistency in performances, and a noticeable drop in results both in domestic competitions and on the European stage.
After reviewing the findings, Feyenoord concluded that beginning the new campaign with a different head coach would be the best option for the club.
The decision brings an end to Van Persie’s relatively short spell in charge and opens the door for a new era as Feyenoord prepare for another season of domestic and European football.
