The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State has intensified its crackdown on illegal drug activities, leading to the arrest of several suspected traffickers in different parts of Benin City and nearby communities.
The agency disclosed that operatives arrested two women suspected to be involved in drug trafficking behind the Oredo Local Government Secretariat in Benin City.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed the development while briefing journalists on the command’s recent operations across the state.
According to him, the suspects identified as Eniye Osague, 25, and Osaretin Erabor, 43, were arrested on May 15, 2026, after operatives allegedly recovered hard drugs and cannabis from them.
The agency also confirmed the arrest of another female suspect, Vivian Chukwuma, alongside a male suspect, Osigwe Omogie, during an operation carried out in the Hausa Quarters area of Oluku, Benin City.
NDLEA said several illicit substances were recovered during the raids, including different types of cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other hard drugs.
The command further revealed that additional suspects were arrested during separate operations conducted around Oredo Local Government Secretariat, Oluku, and Uduwuga in Uhumwonde Local Government Area.
Beyond the arrests, the anti-drug agency also destroyed two large cannabis plantations discovered inside Ago Forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to Ofoyeju, the farms covered a large expanse of land and were estimated to contain over 1,300 kilograms of cannabis.
He explained that the operation followed credible intelligence reports, but no arrests were made at the farm locations because those behind the plantations were not present during the raid.
The NDLEA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking and substance abuse across Edo State and warned traffickers to stay away from the state.
