Former Yahaya Bello has secured victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, which took place on Monday, saw Bello defeat two other aspirants to clinch the party’s ticket for the senatorial race.
The other contestants in the exercise were APC Diaspora Secretary Momoh Obaro and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.
Bello’s victory comes after days of intense political discussions and speculation within the APC over his participation in the contest.
There had been widespread rumours suggesting that the former governor’s screening process faced challenges, leading to uncertainty about whether he would eventually be cleared to contest in the primary election.
Despite the speculation, Bello successfully emerged as the party’s preferred candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat, strengthening his political comeback ahead of the 2027 elections.
