Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday held a meeting with aides representing U.S. Congressman Riley Moore to discuss growing concerns about Nigeria’s elections and security situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was revealed in a statement released by Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a lobbying and public affairs firm based in Washington, D.C., which currently represents Atiku in the United States.
According to the statement, both parties talked about the need to protect the voting rights of Nigerians and ensure that future elections are transparent, peaceful, and credible.
Part of the statement read: “Representatives of Congressman Riley Moore and former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar met earlier today to discuss the importance of defending every Nigerian’s right to participate in a free and fair election. The goal is to help Nigerians choose leaders who can effectively address the country’s worsening security challenges.”
The firm added that the discussion was productive and centered on election credibility, national peace, and the long-term stability of Nigeria.
Reports also show that the meeting comes shortly after Atiku, a major figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), submitted his presidential nomination forms ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The former vice president has continued to call on Nigerians to support his mission to rebuild the country and return Nigeria to what he described as its “good old days.”
