NDA announces live firing exercise, urges Kaduna residents not to panic
The Nigerian Defence Academy has announced plans to carry out its 2026 annual shooting and range classification exercise for Nigerian Army personnel serving within the institution.
The academy said residents living around its facility in Kaduna should not be alarmed when they hear gunfire during the exercise.
In a statement released on Monday by its spokesperson, Major Reuben Kovangiya, the exercise is scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 9 at the NDA open range in Afaka.
He explained that all necessary safety arrangements have been put in place to ensure the exercise is conducted safely and without risk to the public.
Residents in nearby communities such as Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya, and Afaka were advised to stay away from the training area during the period.
The academy also warned the public not to enter or move close to the range for safety reasons while the exercise is ongoing.
It appreciated the understanding and cooperation of residents and reassured them that the training would be carried out in a controlled and safe environment.
The Commandant of the NDA, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, also assured the public that all safety measures have been properly arranged to prevent any incident during the exercise.
