The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed reports claiming that a breakaway faction of the group has dissolved the movement and removed its leader, Peter Obi, alongside himself.
Speaking in a telephone interview with DAILY POST, Tanko described the report as false and misleading, saying it has no basis in reality.
He alleged that those spreading the information are supporters of a former Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, whom he accused of being behind the claim.
Tanko said, “It is not true at all. These are Abure’s boys circulating false information. How can that even happen? How can you remove the founder of the movement, Peter Obi? It doesn’t make sense.”
The report emerged after a group led by Dr. Barry Avotu Johnson, who described himself as the International Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, announced at a press briefing in Abuja that the faction had taken certain decisions regarding the group’s structure.
Johnson said the faction had decided not to endorse any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections and also claimed it had cut ties with the Labour Party.
He further stated that the group had withdrawn recognition from some individuals, including Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko, claiming they had been expelled from the movement.
However, Tanko maintained that the Obidient Movement remains united under its original leadership and dismissed the announcement as baseless and politically motivated.
