Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has officially joined the Nasarawa State governorship race after picking up the nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adamu collected the forms on Monday, confirming his intention to contest for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 elections. He is expected to compete against Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who is widely seen as the preferred candidate of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The Director-General of Adamu’s campaign, Barrister Hussein Musa, also known as Shettiman Giza, described his entry into the race as an important step aimed at promoting more inclusive leadership in Nasarawa State.
Musa expressed confidence that Adamu has strong chances of winning, saying the campaign team is fully prepared to secure victory in both the party primaries and the main election.
Adamu’s entry has added fresh tension to the APC governorship contest in the state, which has already been affected by internal disagreements following the governor’s support for Wadada.
In a separate development, five governorship hopefuls from Nasarawa West Senatorial District have withdrawn from the race and pledged support for Wadada, strengthening his political base within the region.
Senator Wadada currently represents Nasarawa West in the Senate. Before that, he served in the House of Representatives for Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
