Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has successfully undergone surgery following the injury he suffered while on international duty with Nigeria.
The talented centre-back sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon shortly before the Super Eagles’ international friendly match against Portugal, ruling him out of action for an extended period.
His club, Slavia Prague, confirmed that the operation was successful and revealed that the Nigerian defender is expected to spend around three months on the sidelines as he begins his recovery process.
The injury means Ogbu is likely to miss the opening weeks of the new football season, dealing a setback to both the player and his club.
Before the unfortunate injury, the 26-year-old had established himself as a regular figure in the Super Eagles squad, featuring in three consecutive matches for the national team.
Ogbu was part of the Nigerian side that lifted the Unity Cup invitational tournament and played important roles in matches against Jamaica and Zimbabwe.
The former youth international also featured in Nigeria’s friendly encounter with Poland, playing the first half of the entertaining 2-2 draw.
