The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu, saying he should acknowledge what it described as failures in governance instead of continuing to make fresh promises after several years in office.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
In the statement, the ADC also took aim at the National Assembly for proceeding on recess during the Democracy Day period, describing the move as inappropriate given the current state of the nation.
The opposition party accused President Tinubu of delivering a Democracy Day speech that sounded more like a campaign message than that of a sitting leader who has already spent over three years in office.
It argued that Nigerians expected a reflection on achievements and challenges, rather than renewed promises of future improvement.
According to the ADC, the address repeatedly assured citizens that economic reforms would soon deliver results, jobs would be created, security would improve, and prosperity was within reach.
The party questioned why similar promises have continued for years, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) being in power since 2015.
It noted that issues such as insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and economic hardship remain major concerns for Nigerians, despite repeated assurances from successive APC administrations.
The ADC added that the repetition of similar promises over the years suggests that earlier commitments have not been fully achieved.
It insisted that after more than a decade of APC leadership, Nigerians deserve clear results rather than continued pledges of future progress.
