Former Vice President and 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the worsening security situation across the country.
Atiku said the rise in kidnappings and violent attacks under the current administration shows that the government is gradually losing control over national security.
In a statement released through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president pointed to the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Borno State and the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as proof that insecurity remains a major problem in Nigeria.
According to him, while government officials continue to celebrate achievements and release performance reports, armed groups and kidnappers are spreading fear among ordinary Nigerians.
Atiku described the attacks on schools as a painful sign of leadership failure, stressing that no parent should send a child to school only to later hear that the child has been abducted.
He said it is unacceptable that classrooms are still turning into targets for criminals several years into the current administration.
The former vice president argued that many communities across the country still feel unsafe, while citizens continue to suffer the consequences of poor security management.
He further accused the government of focusing more on public relations and political image than on protecting lives and restoring peace.
Atiku maintained that the security challenges facing the country are not isolated incidents but a reflection of deeper governance problems that require urgent attention.
