A tragic road accident along the Narehi axis in Girei–Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State has led to the death of six people, including members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, the crash involved a military gun truck heading from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus carrying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
Preliminary investigation shows that the two vehicles collided head-on in a violent crash, causing the passenger bus to overturn and immediately burst into flames.
The fire tragically consumed all five occupants of the commercial vehicle, leaving none of them alive.
Police confirmed that four of the victims were NYSC members serving in Adamawa State. Two of them have been identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are still ongoing to identify the remaining corps members.
The statement also confirmed that a soldier traveling in the military truck died in the accident.
The bodies of the victims have been moved to the Specialist Hospital in Yola for preservation and further identification, while authorities continue efforts to contact their families.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State has expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Army, and the NYSC community.
He assured that investigations are ongoing to fully determine the cause of the crash and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
