A lawyer based in Kano, Abba Hikima, has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, calling for a fresh and independent investigation into the disappearance and alleged killing of activist Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata.
Hikima made this known in a petition dated May 8, 2026, which he later shared on his Facebook page together with copies sent to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
In the document, the lawyer referred to allegations reportedly made by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle.
According to the petition, Kamarawa allegedly linked two senior police officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba, to the alleged killing of Dadiyata.
The petition quoted Kamarawa as claiming that the officers threatened him and allegedly mentioned Dadiyata and another individual during the threat.
Hikima described the allegation as very serious and said it should not be ignored, especially since Dadiyata has remained missing since his abduction in August 2019.
He noted that the disappearance of the activist has continued to raise concern among Nigerians, with many still demanding answers about his whereabouts.
The lawyer stated that any claim suggesting someone witnessed the alleged killing of Dadiyata must be thoroughly investigated in a transparent and independent manner.
According to him, if the allegations turn out to be false, a proper investigation would help clear the names of those accused and restore public confidence in the police.
He also stressed that if the claims are found to be true, everyone involved must face justice regardless of their position or influence.
Hikima therefore urged the Inspector-General of Police to immediately set up an independent panel to investigate the allegations against the officers and make the findings public.
