Re-election 2027: Yahaya Bello Highlights Value of Legislative Experience

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has said that legislative experience should be an important factor for voters in Kogi State as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

He made the remark at a recent event organised by Leke Abejide, the House of Representatives member for Yagba Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Customs.

According to Bello, lawmakers who spend more time in office tend to perform better because they understand how the National Assembly works, build stronger connections, and gain useful institutional knowledge over time.

He explained that this kind of experience can improve a legislator’s ability to take part in lawmaking, lead committees effectively, and deliver more development projects to their constituencies.

Bello added that the structure of the National Assembly often rewards seniority, saying that lawmakers with longer service are usually better positioned to handle complex processes and push ongoing projects to completion.

He also appealed to the people of Mopa-Muro to consider continuity in representation, noting that development plans need time to mature.

“I understand the aspirations of our brothers and sisters in Mopa-Muro. It is your turn, but there is wisdom in timing. Allow Abejide to complete a third term and bring more development. After that, the opportunity will come, and it will come stronger,” he said.

The former governor also advised Abejide, who currently serves in the 10th National Assembly under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) for better political alignment ahead of the next election.

“We want him to join our party, the APC, and return to the House of Representatives for a third term,” Bello added.
