Chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Tuesday held a meeting with the United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Rick Swart, to discuss Nigeria’s democratic process and bilateral relations.
Obi shared details of the meeting through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying the discussion focused on strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United States.
He explained that both sides talked about the need for credible elections in Nigeria, stressing that future polls should be free, fair, and without interference. He also noted the importance of creating an open political environment where all parties, especially opposition groups, can participate effectively and contribute to national development.
In addition to politics, Obi said they also discussed trade and investment opportunities that could benefit both countries and improve economic cooperation.
He was accompanied at the meeting by Dr. Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo.
According to him, the meeting was productive, and he expressed optimism that Nigeria’s electoral process would continue to improve, becoming more transparent and trustworthy in future elections.
