Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has dismissed reports suggesting that his relationship with Peter Obi has turned sour.
Speaking during an appearance on Inside Sources, a Channels Television programme hosted by Laolu Akande on Sunday, Baba-Ahmed said there is still mutual respect between him and the former Anambra State governor despite belonging to different political parties.
He stated that no individual or political group would be able to create a misunderstanding between them.
According to him, Peter Obi remains someone he respects deeply because of his record as governor and his personal values.
“Nobody can come between me and Peter Obi,” Baba-Ahmed said. “He may belong to a different political party today, but that does not change the respect I have for him. We both respect each other, and no one can damage that relationship.”
Baba-Ahmed and Obi worked together during the 2023 presidential election, when they contested on the Labour Party ticket. Obi was the party’s presidential candidate, while Baba-Ahmed served as his running mate.
However, the political landscape has changed ahead of the 2027 general elections. Both men have now moved in different directions politically.
Baba-Ahmed is currently associated with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), while Peter Obi has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he is expected to lead the party into the next presidential election.
Despite their political differences, Baba-Ahmed made it clear that their personal relationship remains intact and that rumours of a fallout between them are unfounded.
