President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will not give in to terrorists, bandits, or any group trying to threaten the country’s peace and stability. He also pledged to continue taking steps aimed at easing the economic difficulties many citizens are currently facing.
The President’s message was delivered on Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during a national interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja. The event formed part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
The service, which carried the theme “God of Hope, Actualise Our Dreams,” attracted several top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Akume congratulated Nigerians for sustaining democratic governance for 27 consecutive years since the country’s return to civilian rule in 1999. He described the achievement as a result of the determination and sacrifices of citizens who fought to restore democracy.
He also honoured the heroes of the June 12 democratic struggle, noting that many paid a heavy price, including imprisonment, injuries, and even loss of life, in their quest for democratic freedom.
Addressing current national challenges, Akume acknowledged that many Nigerians are dealing with rising living costs, insecurity, kidnappings, and the displacement of families from their communities.
According to him, the Federal Government understands the difficulties people are facing and remains committed to finding lasting solutions.
He said President Tinubu is fully aware of the concerns of citizens and is working to tackle them with empathy and a strong sense of duty.
On security, the President expressed concern over recent attacks and abductions across parts of the country. While admitting that significant challenges remain, he assured Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of those still being held captive.
Tinubu also stated that security agencies are receiving increased support and resources to strengthen their operations, protect lives and property, and safeguard the nation’s borders.
He reaffirmed the government’s determination to defeat criminal groups, stressing that Nigeria will remain firm in its fight against terrorism, banditry, and other threats to national security.
