The father of former Big Brother Naija winner Ilebaye Odiniya, Hon. Emmanuel Godson Odiniya, has finally spoken about the controversy surrounding the alleged physical assault on his daughter.
The incident, which has generated reactions online, reportedly led to the arrest of the Kogi politician after claims emerged that he physically attacked the reality TV star during a family disagreement.
In an emotional audio message, Odiniya denied hating his daughter and said Ilebaye had always been among his favourite children. According to him, the issue between them was never caused by lack of love or care.
He explained that he invested heavily in her upbringing and education, adding that he made sure she attended good schools because he wanted the best for her future.
The politician also revealed that he strongly supported Ilebaye during her journey on the Big Brother Naija reality show, especially in the 2023 season which she won.
According to him, he used his political connections and relationships across Nigeria and abroad to gather votes and support for her during the competition.
Odiniya claimed that several politicians, supporters and associates contributed money to help keep Ilebaye in the show until she emerged winner.
He, however, expressed disappointment over what he described as a change in her behaviour after her victory.
According to him, Ilebaye became distant and stopped listening to his advice despite several efforts to speak with her regularly.
He alleged that she rarely gave him attention whenever he tried to contact her and accused her of ignoring many of the people who supported her rise to fame.
The Kogi politician also claimed he advised his daughter to publicly appreciate those who stood by her during the reality show but said she refused.
He further criticised her spending habits and lifestyle, alleging that she spent heavily on cosmetic procedures and luxury living instead of investing in projects that could help less privileged people.
Odiniya stated that he repeatedly encouraged her to use her success and wealth to support charity and community development, but claimed she ignored his advice.
He also alleged that disagreements between them increased after she became famous and started moving with certain friends whom he believed negatively influenced her.
As of the time of this report, Ilebaye Odiniya had not publicly responded to her father’s latest claims.
