Media personality Daddy Freeze has explained why he chose to leave the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo before the event ended.
Speaking during an Instagram Live session over the weekend, the broadcaster shared his personal views about how funeral ceremonies should be conducted, particularly regarding the type of music performed.
The memorial event, which took place in Lagos last Wednesday, attracted several notable guests, including pastors, gospel musicians, actors, and other public figures who gathered to pay their final respects to the late actor.
According to Daddy Freeze, he decided to leave after one of the musical performances because he felt the atmosphere had become more like a concert than a solemn remembrance gathering.
He stated that funeral events should feature calm and reflective songs that help people mourn and remember the deceased, rather than energetic performances.
Daddy Freeze specifically questioned whether softer worship songs could have been used during the ceremony, saying he personally expected a more subdued musical setting.
He added that traditional hymns and gentle worship songs would have better suited the mood of the occasion and would have encouraged him to remain throughout the programme.
The media personality stressed that his decision to leave was based on his personal understanding of how memorial services should be conducted.
The service of songs featured performances from several well-known gospel artists, including Mercy Chinwo, Peterson Okopi, Moses Bliss, Ebuka Songs, and the Laud Urban Choir, among others.
