Kola Oyewo: Atiku Expresses Sadness Over Veteran Actor’s Death

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Nigerian actor, Kola Oyewo, describing him as a respected figure in African theatre whose legacy will continue to live on.

The death of the celebrated actor was earlier confirmed on Friday by his son, Adetoyese Oyewo.

In a statement shared on his X handle on Saturday, Atiku said he was greatly saddened by the passing of Dr. Kola Oyewo, whom he described as both a brilliant performer and an academic in African drama.

He noted that Oyewo’s memorable performance as King Lapite in the classic film “Saworoide” helped to cement his place in the history of Nigerian cinema and theatre.

According to him, the late actor’s death has created a significant gap in the world of theatre arts, especially among lovers of African storytelling.

Atiku added that Oyewo will be remembered not only for his acting talent but also for his role in shaping social consciousness through drama and education.

He extended his condolences to the family, colleagues, and fans of the late actor, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
