A civic advocacy organisation, Agenda for Positive Change, led by Titus Danladi-Biu, has rejected reports linking oil and gas expert Dr. Bala Wunti to the widely discussed ₦210 trillion Senate probe controversy.
In a statement released on Friday, the group described the claims as false, misleading, and part of a targeted attempt to damage the reputation of the former senior petroleum executive.
It said there is no record of any Senate committee, anti-corruption body, court, or official investigative panel that has ever indicted, investigated, or connected Dr. Wunti to missing funds or financial wrongdoing related to the allegation.
The organisation said the story being circulated is a deliberate attempt to smear a highly respected professional with nearly 35 years of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, whose career it described as focused on reform, efficiency, and national development.
According to the group, it is wrong to associate Dr. Wunti with claims that have no supporting evidence or official backing.
Agenda for Positive Change stressed that Wunti’s time at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its upstream investment arm was marked by key reforms and improvements in the sector.
As former Chief Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), he reportedly helped manage Nigeria’s upstream investments, strengthen partnerships, improve production processes, and support overall efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
The group added that under his leadership, NUIMS implemented reforms aimed at improving governance, boosting output, and increasing investor confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.
It also noted that Wunti was known for promoting better investment practices, sustainable resource management, and long-term planning for the industry.
Before retiring in 2025 as NNPC’s Chief Group Corporate Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Officer, he had served in several technical and leadership roles across operations, investment planning, and safety management.
The group further explained that much of the ₦210 trillion figure being discussed has already been questioned by experts, who say it relates to accounting records, joint venture arrangements, and financial obligations rather than stolen or missing money.
Agenda for Positive Change warned against the spread of unverified claims and politically driven narratives that could mislead the public and harm reputations.
It urged Nigerians to rely on verified facts and official investigations rather than social media speculation.
The statement concluded that Dr. Bala Wunti has not been indicted in any ₦210 trillion case and should not be linked to false or unproven allegations.
