Afrobeat singer and grandson of music legend Fela Kuti, Made Kuti, has spoken about why he chose not to kneel when he proposed to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso.

The 30-year-old Grammy-nominated artiste explained that his decision was based on his belief that marriage should be a mutual agreement between two people, not a situation where one person appears to be “begging” the other.

He shared this during a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast on Nix Network’s YouTube channel.

According to him, he told his wife during the proposal that their union was a shared decision built on equality and understanding.

“I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” he said.

Made Kuti married Inedoye Onyenso in a private ceremony held in Lagos in November 2023.

He also revealed that Inedoye was someone he knew from his earlier school days, describing her as his former “school daughter.”

In 2025, the singer also spoke out against criticism of his interracial marriage, after some people attacked him and his wife for coming from different ethnic backgrounds.

He described such ethnic prejudice as a “slave mentality,” stressing that love and unity should not be divided by tribe or background.
