The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State has raised concerns over the renewed wave of bandit attacks in different parts of the state, while also blaming the Federal Government for what it called weak protection of lives and property.
In a statement released on Thursday in Gusau, the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, Murtala Gusau, said the state chairman, Surajo Garba Maikatako, expressed sympathy with communities affected by recent attacks in Zurmi, Maradun, and Anka Local Government Areas.
The party also extended condolences to security agencies following the death of three police officers who were killed in an explosion along the Bagega–Anka road.
According to the statement, the repeated attacks on rural communities show serious gaps in security management and highlight the need for stronger action from authorities to protect residents.
The NDC also reacted to comments allegedly made by the state governor during a BBC interview, where he reportedly said he never promised to end insecurity during his election campaign. The party described the comment as disappointing given the current situation in the state.
It further expressed sorrow over the loss of three Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers of the Zamfara State Police Command who died while carrying out their duty, describing their deaths as tragic and painful.
The party urged security agencies and government authorities to step up efforts in tackling banditry and restoring peace across affected communities in Zamfara State.
