Residents were thrown into panic on Sunday after a fire broke out around the Old Garage area in Osogbo, Osun State, causing tension and confusion in the busy neighbourhood.
A video seen online showed firefighters battling the blaze as thick smoke rose heavily into the sky, drawing the attention of onlookers in the area.
The incident reportedly happened around the Old Garage axis, a busy part of Osogbo where two petrol stations are also located close to the affected site, raising further concern among residents.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene in an attempt to bring the situation under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and businesses.
When contacted, the Osun State Command of the Federal Fire Service confirmed the incident and said its officials were already on ground to handle the situation.
“Yes, it is true. The fire investigative department is there,” the Federal Fire Service confirmed.
However, at the time of filing this report, authorities had not yet confirmed what caused the fire, and there was no official update on possible casualties or the level of damage recorded.
Investigations are still ongoing as firefighters continue efforts to fully contain and assess the situation.
