The cost of cooking gas has increased again in Nigeria, marking the second price jump within three days as residents prepare for the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
Checks carried out across several parts of Abuja showed that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has climbed from N1,500 per kilogram to between N1,700 and N1,800 depending on the location.
The latest increase means consumers are now paying about N200 to N300 more for every kilogram of cooking gas.
The new adjustment comes shortly after dealers recently raised the product from around N1,200 per kilogram to N1,500, creating further pressure on households already battling rising living costs.
With the latest changes, the price of cooking gas has risen by nearly 50 percent within just a few days.
The sudden increase has triggered concern among residents and business owners who depend heavily on gas for cooking and commercial activities during the festive period.
The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers had earlier blamed the sharp rise in prices on supply shortages and called on the government to step in before the situation worsens.
Many consumers in Abuja and nearby areas say the continuous increase is making it harder for families to cope with daily expenses, especially during the Sallah season when demand for cooking gas is usually higher.
