Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of Abuja to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, unity and responsibility as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
In his Sallah message to residents of the FCT, Wike said the festival should go beyond celebration and serve as a reminder of the values of obedience, faith, patience and selflessness demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
The minister urged residents to contribute actively to the growth and development of Abuja by obeying laws, keeping the environment clean, paying taxes promptly and supporting security agencies.
According to him, building a modern and peaceful capital city requires discipline, cooperation and commitment from both the government and residents.
Wike described the Federal Capital Territory as a symbol of national unity where people from different ethnic groups, religions and cultures coexist peacefully.
He also revealed that several major infrastructure projects across Abuja and rural communities would soon be inaugurated as part of efforts to improve development under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The FCT minister praised residents for their patience during ongoing construction and assured them that the projects would improve economic activities and living conditions in the territory.
To ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Wike said security agencies across the FCT had been placed on alert to protect lives and property during the festive period.
He encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly, remain law-abiding and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
The minister also appealed to Nigerians to show kindness to the less privileged and promote love, tolerance and harmony in their communities.
Speaking on the coincidence of Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations, Wike described children as the future of the nation and urged parents and community leaders to raise them with strong moral values.
He stressed the need to invest more in children’s education, healthcare and welfare to secure a better future for Nigeria.
Wike further commended Muslim pilgrims from the FCT for their conduct during this year’s Hajj and asked them to continue praying for peace, unity and progress in the country.
