The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has turned down a request by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, seeking permission to visit former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, while in custody.
In an official letter dated May 21, 2026 and sent to the ADC National Secretary in Abuja, the anti-corruption agency explained that it could not approve the request because the matter involving El-Rufai is currently before the courts.
According to the Commission, El-Rufai is facing legal proceedings at both the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
The ICPC stated that although the former governor remains in its custody based on court directives, his case is already under judicial consideration, limiting who can have access to him.
The agency clarified that the courts only approved visitation rights for a restricted group of individuals.
These include members of his family, his legal team, and medical personnel responsible for his health needs.
The Commission stressed that no political party or outside group was included among those permitted to meet with him while in custody.
Based on the court’s directives and the ongoing trial, the ICPC said the ADC’s request could not be granted.
