The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a young man, Mr Ya’u Mohammed from Gashua in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, after confirming that he was wrongly detained over an allegation he had no connection to.
The development was confirmed during a visit to the DSS Yobe State Command Headquarters in Damaturu by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), where the man was officially handed over and reunited with his family.
General Abdulsalam said he visited the command to understand the circumstances that led to the arrest and eventual release of the young man.
He explained that investigations carried out by the DSS showed that Mr Ya’u Mohammed was not involved in the alleged offence that led to his earlier detention.
According to him, the decision to release and also support the young man financially was a rare and commendable step.
“I have served in public office for many years, but I have never seen a situation where someone is cleared of wrongdoing and still given financial support afterwards,” he said.
He described the action as a reflection of the DSS leadership’s commitment to fairness, justice, and helping citizens reintegrate into society after wrongful suspicion.
The security adviser also urged other security agencies to continue respecting human rights and the rule of law in order to strengthen public trust.
After regaining his freedom, Mr Ya’u Mohammed expressed gratitude to God, describing his experience as a test of faith that ended in his favour.
Following his clearance, the DSS also gave him ₦2 million to help him restart his life and support his reintegration into society.
