Sports broadcaster Oma Akatugba has shared an interesting story about Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, revealing that the footballer once ignored the romantic interest of a daughter of a well-known Nigerian billionaire.
According to Akatugba, the incident happened several years ago when Okoye was still playing for Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Speaking about the experience, the journalist said he was visiting the goalkeeper at his residence when Okoye showed him a message he had received on his phone. To his surprise, the message was from the daughter of a wealthy Nigerian businessman.
Akatugba recalled being excited by the development and encouraged the goalkeeper to consider getting to know her because of her influential family background. However, Okoye reportedly had a different view and explained that the lady did not fit the kind of partner he was looking for.
Sharing the story on his X account, Akatugba wrote that he jokingly told Okoye he had found a “big catch,” but the goalkeeper simply smiled and insisted that the woman was not his preferred type.
Since making his debut for the Super Eagles in 2019, Okoye has attracted a large fan base, especially among female supporters who often praise his appearance and athletic build on social media.
As the attention continued to grow, the goalkeeper later made it known publicly that he was already in a relationship.
Okoye is currently in a long-term relationship with Dutch model Jelicia Westhoff. The couple share a son, Isaiah Emil Okoye, and have remained together for several years.
