Real Madrid have officially announced that José Mourinho will take charge of the club ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the Portuguese manager set to begin work on July 13.
The Spanish giants confirmed that Mourinho will report for duty on the same day the team resumes preseason training as preparations begin for the new campaign.
The club also revealed that the experienced coach has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2029.
To complete the deal, Real Madrid will reportedly pay Benfica a compensation fee of around €15 million for the release of the 63-year-old manager.
In an official statement, the club said its board of directors approved Mourinho’s appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the team over the coming years.
Mourinho’s arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter for Real Madrid as the club looks to build on its recent successes and compete for major trophies both in Spain and across Europe.
The former Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Roma boss is expected to oversee the team’s preseason programme before leading the squad into the new La Liga season.
