Manchester United have reportedly ruled out the possibility of Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool signing Marcus Rashford through his £40 million release clause.
The England forward is expected to return to Old Trafford after Barcelona decided against activating the option that would have made his stay at the Spanish club permanent.
Barcelona reportedly had the opportunity to complete a permanent deal worth around €30 million but chose not to proceed, leaving Rashford’s future open ahead of the new season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided fresh insight into the situation, revealing that the special release clause attached to Rashford’s contract cannot be used by either Manchester City or Liverpool.
According to Romano, any potential move involving those two clubs would require a different arrangement, while the final decision on the player’s next step remains largely in his hands.
The football journalist added that Rashford is currently reviewing all available options before deciding where he will play next season.
Manchester United are also expected to hold discussions regarding his future, with the possibility of the forward remaining at the club still on the table.
The 27-year-old is presently representing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where he remains focused on international duty before addressing his club situation.
